Story 3
Seven Stars Wake Up
The little baby slowly grew. Polaris watched from above and saw that a growing child needs many things.
The child got hungry and needed to grow strong. The child asked "Why?" about everything. The child wanted to learn new things. The child had to learn right from wrong. The dark felt scary. Sometimes the child felt sad and needed a calm heart. And more than anything, the child loved to play and dream.
So Polaris spread out that white light — and just like sunlight after rain makes a rainbow, the light split into seven colors. Each color became a brand-new star.
In the orange star woke Zest, who looks after strength and good food. In the blue star woke Orbit, who helps find the answer to every "Why?" In the yellow star woke Quill, who makes learning fun. In the indigo star woke Wren, who shows the way of truth and kindness.
In the green star woke Fern, who gives courage when you feel afraid. In the red star woke Maple, who teaches thank-you and a calm heart. And in the violet star woke Pip, the friend of play and imagination, who owns a magical Star Ladder.
The seven sages heard Polaris's rule and made a promise together: "In every time and every place, we will choose a name and a face that feel like home there, so no child is ever scared of us. Our true sign will be S7, and our colors. And we will always come through a child's own family."
Ever since then, when you look north at night, you can see seven stars making the shape of a big dipper. The two stars at its edge point straight at the North Star. Those are the seven sages, circling around Polaris.
